Relaxed wedding photography in Central West NSW by Maddi Lee’s Photography

Your wedding day should feel joyful, not stressful. As a Bathurst wedding photographer, I’ve seen it all — and I know how much smoother the day feels when photography becomes effortless and fun.

Here are my top tips to make sure your wedding photos are relaxed, natural, and full of memories (not stress).

1. Book a photographer you click with

This is number one for a reason. You’ll spend more time with your photographer than almost anyone else on your wedding day. Make sure it’s someone whose energy matches yours — someone who makes you feel comfortable, supported, and celebrated.

2. Build a realistic timeline

Rushing = stress. Add breathing space between events so you’re not constantly clock-watching. I help all my couples create a photography-friendly timeline that allows us to capture everything while keeping things relaxed.

3. Trust your photographer’s eye

Pinterest inspo is great, but on the day — trust your photographer to read the light, location, and energy. Sometimes the most magical photos happen in unexpected moments, not staged ones.

4. Focus on the connection, not the camera

The best photos come when you forget the camera’s there. Laugh, hug, cry, kiss — be present. I’ll guide you with prompts when needed, but the magic is always in your natural connection.

5. Have a go-to person (or two)

Pick a bridesmaid, groomsman, or family member who can help gather people for group shots, fix veils, or wrangle bouquets. This takes the pressure off you so you can just enjoy.

6. Plan for little details ahead

From boutonnieres to jewellery to your stationery suite — keep all the small details in one spot. That way, I can quickly capture them while you relax, instead of scrambling to find missing pieces.

7. Let go of perfection

Things will go “off script.” A flower girl might throw petals too soon, the wind might whip your veil, or you might laugh mid-vows. These “imperfections” often become the best, most emotional photos of the day.

Final Thoughts

Your wedding photos should feel like you — fun, authentic, full of love — not like a staged photoshoot. With the right prep and the right photographer (hi, that’s me ✨), your day will feel natural and stress-free, and your gallery will tell the whole story.
