Family photoshoot in Bathurst park during golden hour

Picking the right location can make your family photos feel relaxed, natural, and full of personality. Whether you love open fields, cosy at-home moments, or something a little adventurous, your session should reflect you.

Here’s my guide to choosing the perfect spot for your family photos in Bathurst and the Central West NSW.

1. Think about your family’s vibe

Are you outdoorsy and playful, or do you love a more classic, timeless feel?

  • For natural, candid moments → open parks, forests, or family farms.

  • For something elegant → gardens, heritage buildings, or soft light studios.

  • For cosy, lifestyle moments → your own home or backyard.

When the location matches your family’s personality, the photos will always feel genuine.

2. Consider the time of day

Light changes everything!

  • Golden hour (just before sunset or sunrise) gives that dreamy, warm glow.

  • Early morning is soft and fresh — perfect for little ones.

  • Overcast days make colours pop and give a moody, timeless feel.

I’ll help you choose timing based on light and weather so your photos shine.

3. Choose somewhere comfortable for the kids

Kids love space to move — so pick a spot where they can explore!Parks, fields, or even your backyard work wonders because it keeps them happy and relaxed (which means genuine smiles).

4. Make it meaningful

Your session doesn’t have to be at a “fancy” location. Sometimes, the best place is your family farm, your favourite walking track, or even the front steps of your home. Personal places tell a story that’s uniquely yours.

5. Don’t stress — I’ll help you decide

If you’re unsure, I’ll send through a list of beautiful Bathurst and Central West spots I love shooting at — from Sunny Corner Forest to local gardens and hidden fields. Together we’ll find the perfect match for your family.

Bonus tip: Bring something familiar

A picnic rug, favourite toy, or even your pet can make photos more relaxed and meaningful. The goal is to make the session feel like you — not like a photoshoot.
