Family photos don’t have to feel awkward, stiff, or stressful. In fact, some of my favourite sessions are full of laughter, tickle fights, and kids running wild.

As a Bathurst family photographer, I know that getting everyone together for photos can feel like a mission. But here’s the secret: when you relax, have fun, and let go of “perfect,” that’s when the best photos happen.

Tip 1: Let kids be kids

Don’t stress if your little one doesn’t sit still or smile on cue. I promise — the playful, cheeky moments often turn into the most treasured images. We’ll capture personality, not just poses.

Tip 2: Choose outfits that feel comfortable

Pick clothes that allow movement (for kids and adults). Soft, breathable fabrics in neutral or complementary colours always look great. And don’t worry about matching perfectly — coordinated tones look far more natural.

Tip 3: Keep it short + sweet

My family sessions are designed to move quickly, keep things fun, and avoid the “are we done yet?” meltdown. 15–60 minutes is all we need to create a gallery full of variety.

Tip 4: Bring a favourite toy or snack

Sometimes, a small comfort item is all it takes to keep kids happy. Plus, toys or books can make adorable props in photos — they’ll remind you of this stage of life in years to come.

Tip 5: Focus on connection, not perfection

The goal isn’t stiff smiles; it’s authentic connection. Hug, chase, laugh, whisper — interact with each other and I’ll capture the magic in-between.

What a family session looks like with me

  • A relaxed, fun vibe (think games, cuddles, exploring).

  • Gentle prompts rather than strict posing.

  • A mix of group shots + candid storytelling moments.

  • An uncapped gallery so you don’t have to choose just a handful of favourites.

Why family photos matter

Time flies faster than we think. Kids grow, grandparents age, and life changes. Family photos freeze those fleeting stages so you can look back and remember not just how you looked, but how you felt.

If you’re dreaming of fun, stress-free family photos in Bathurst or the Central West NSW, I’d love to help capture them.

Because the best family photos aren’t perfect — they’re real.
