Let's be honest.
No matter how organised you are, wedding planning can feel overwhelming at times.
Between finalising vendors, confirming guest numbers, organising timelines and trying to remember every little detail, it's completely normal to feel stressed in the weeks leading up to your wedding.
The good news?
A little preparation can make a huge difference.
As a Bathurst wedding photographer and wedding videographer, I've been lucky enough to witness countless wedding days, and there are a few things that consistently help couples feel more relaxed, present and able to enjoy the day they've spent so long planning.
1. Trust The Vendors You've Chosen
By the time your wedding day arrives, you've already done the hard work.
You've researched.
You've asked questions.
You've booked people you trust.
Now it's time to let them do what they do best.
Your vendors genuinely want your day to be incredible.
The more you trust the team around you, the more you can focus on enjoying the experience rather than managing it.
2. Create A Simple Wedding Day Timeline
A timeline doesn't need to be complicated.
It simply needs to provide enough structure that everyone knows where they need to be and when.
One of the biggest causes of wedding day stress is uncertainty.
Having a clear timeline helps keep the day moving smoothly while allowing plenty of room for flexibility.
3. Pack Your Details The Night Before
If you'd like detail photographs, gather everything together before the wedding morning.
This might include:
Rings
Invitations
Vow books
Jewellery
Perfume
Shoes
Veil
Special keepsakes
Having everything ready saves time and prevents last-minute scrambling.
4. Eat Breakfast
This sounds simple.
But you'd be surprised how many couples forget.
Wedding mornings are exciting, emotional and often busy.
Make sure you eat something and stay hydrated throughout the day.
You'll feel significantly better for it.
5. Allow Extra Travel Time
If you've ever driven through Bathurst, you'll know that sometimes unexpected delays happen.
Roadworks.
Traffic.
Weather.
A timeline with a little buffer built in creates far less stress than a timeline running right down to the minute.
6. Prepare A Family Photo List
Family photos are one of the most important parts of the day, but they're also the part most likely to run behind schedule if people aren't prepared.
Creating a simple list beforehand ensures we capture everyone efficiently and allows you to get back to celebrating with your guests sooner.
7. Delegate Small Tasks
You should not be answering supplier calls, organising decorations or solving seating plan issues on your wedding day.
That's what your bridal party, family members and vendors are for.
Choose a few trusted people and allow them to help.
You don't have to carry everything yourself.
8. Accept That Something Will Probably Go Wrong
This might sound strange, but it's genuinely one of the best pieces of advice I can give.
Almost every wedding has something that doesn't go exactly according to plan.
A button falls off.
Someone forgets something.
The weather changes.
A vendor runs five minutes late.
Most of the time, nobody notices.
The couples who enjoy their wedding day the most are usually the ones who accept that perfection isn't the goal.
Celebration is.
9. Schedule Time Together
Wedding days move incredibly fast.
One minute you're getting ready and the next you're cutting the cake.
Build small moments into the day where it's just the two of you.
Whether it's private vows, a first look or ten minutes together during sunset portraits, these moments often become some of the most meaningful memories from the entire day.
10. Remember Why You're There
At the end of the day, your wedding isn't about timelines, flowers, seating charts or perfectly folded napkins.
It's about marrying the person you love.
Everything else is simply a bonus.
When things feel overwhelming, come back to that.
Because that's what truly matters.
My Advice As A Bathurst Wedding Photographer
The weddings that feel the most relaxed aren't always the ones with the biggest budgets or the most elaborate details.
They're the weddings where couples allow themselves to be present.
The more preparation you do beforehand, the easier it becomes to let go and enjoy the day when it finally arrives.
Trust your vendors.
Trust your planning.
Trust each other.
And most importantly, have fun.
