Couples often tell me they’re not sure what they’re booking.
“Are engagement photos different to couple photos?”“Do we need engagement photos if we’re already together?”“What if we just want photos for us?”
These questions come up all the time. And the confusion makes sense.
While engagement sessions and couple sessions look similar on the surface, they serve very different emotional purposes.
Engagement Photos: A Celebration of What’s Next
Engagement sessions usually happen after a proposal and before a wedding.
They mark a transition. A pause in time where everything feels exciting and slightly unreal.
Engagement photos are often used for:• save-the-dates• wedding websites• announcements
But more importantly, they help couples get comfortable moving together in front of the camera before the wedding day.
There’s laughter. Movement. Exploration. And a lot of “oh wow, that wasn’t scary at all”.
Couple Sessions: A Celebration of What Is
Couple sessions don’t need a milestone.
They’re for:• anniversaries• long-term partners• people who just want photos that feel like them
There’s no pressure. No expectations. No timeline attached.
Couple photography is about capturing the everyday connection. The way you naturally interact. The joy that exists without needing a reason.
The Experience Is the Same. The Intention Is Different.
Both sessions are:• playful• movement-led• guided without being posed
You’ll walk. You’ll laugh. You’ll probably forget I’m there.
The difference isn’t in how the photos look. It’s in why you’re booking them.
If you’re celebrating what’s ahead, engagement photos are perfect. If you’re celebrating what already exists, a couple session is just as meaningful.
Couples Photography in Bathurst & NSW
I photograph engagement and couple sessions across Bathurst, the Central West NSW, and throughout NSW, creating photos that feel alive, emotional, and full of movement.
There’s no right or wrong choice. Only the one that feels right for where you’re at.
