How to Feel Comfortable in Front of the Camera for Your Engagement Session

Feeling nervous about being photographed is one of the most common things couples tell me — and honestly, it makes complete sense.

You don’t need to be confident, outgoing, or “photogenic” to have beautiful engagement photos. You just need a photographer who knows how to guide you.

You don’t need to know how to pose

You don’t need to practise poses or worry about what to do with your hands. During your 1–1.5 hour engagement session, I guide you using gentle prompts that focus on movement and interaction.

You’re never left wondering what to do next.

Longer sessions = more comfort

This is exactly why my engagement sessions aren’t rushed. Having 1–1.5 hours means:

  • we ease into the session

  • nerves settle naturally

  • you forget about the camera

The best photos almost always happen after that initial “warming up” period.

Focus on each other, not the camera

Instead of asking you to “stand here and smile,” I guide you to interact with each other — walking, talking, laughing, and sharing quiet moments.

When you focus on your partner instead of the lens, the photos instantly feel more natural.

Engagement photos can feel easy

You don’t need to perform or be anyone other than yourselves. Engagement sessions should feel like time spent together — with someone there to capture it.

If you’ve been worried about feeling awkward, know that you’re not alone — and that it doesn’t have to be that way.
