Let's be honest.

Almost every expectant Mum who enquires about maternity photos says some version of the same thing:

"I don't know if I want photos."

"I'm not feeling very photogenic right now."

"Maybe I'll just wait until the baby arrives."

And honestly?

I completely understand.

Pregnancy is beautiful, but it can also be uncomfortable, exhausting and emotional.

Your body is changing.

You're preparing for one of the biggest transitions of your life.

And sometimes stepping in front of a camera can feel like the last thing you want to do.

But after photographing maternity sessions throughout Bathurst and the Central West, I've noticed something.

The Mums who are most nervous before their session are often the ones who are most grateful they did it.

1. This Season Of Life Is Shorter Than It Feels

When you're pregnant, especially during those final weeks, it can feel like it will last forever.

But once your baby arrives, everything changes incredibly quickly.

Before long you'll be looking back at photos trying to remember:

  • What your bump looked like

  • How it felt to feel those little kicks

  • What life looked like before baby arrived

Maternity photos freeze a chapter of your story that only exists for a short period of time.

2. Your Baby Will Love These Photos One Day

Right now, these photographs might feel like they're for you.

But one day they'll be for your child too.

Imagine being able to show your son or daughter photographs of the time before they arrived.

The excitement.

The anticipation.

The love that already existed before you even met them.

Those memories become incredibly meaningful as the years pass.

3. You Don't Need To Feel Like A Model

One of the biggest misconceptions about maternity photography is that you need to know how to pose.

You don't.

Most of the women you see in my galleries aren't professional models.

They're everyday Mums who felt nervous before their session too.

My job is to guide you every step of the way.

I'll help with posing, movement and prompts that feel natural and comfortable.

You don't need experience.

You just need to show up.

4. Maternity Sessions Are About More Than Your Bump

Of course we'll capture beautiful images of your pregnancy.

But maternity photos are also about:

  • Your excitement

  • Your relationship

  • Your growing family

  • The connection between you and your partner

  • The anticipation of meeting your baby

Some of my favourite maternity images are the quiet moments.

The way a partner looks at Mum.

The hand resting gently on a bump.

The laughter between moments.

Those are the memories that often mean the most.

5. You'll Never Regret Having The Photos

I've spoken to many women who regret not booking maternity photos.

I've never spoken to someone who regretted having them.

Even if you feel tired.

Even if you're swollen.

Even if you don't quite feel like yourself right now.

This chapter deserves to be remembered too.

Because one day you'll look back and realise how much has changed.

When Is The Best Time To Book Maternity Photos?

I generally recommend booking your maternity session between 28 and 34 weeks.

By this stage:

  • Your bump is usually beautifully visible

  • You're often still comfortable enough to move around easily

  • There's less risk of baby arriving before your session

Of course every pregnancy is different, so timing can always be adjusted to suit you.

What Should I Wear To A Maternity Session?

The best outfits are usually the ones that make you feel confident and comfortable.

Flowy dresses, knitwear, fitted maternity dresses and neutral colours tend to photograph beautifully.

I always encourage clients to choose outfits that feel like an elevated version of themselves rather than something completely outside their comfort zone.

The goal is for your photographs to feel authentic and timeless.

Looking For A Bathurst Maternity Photographer?

If you're expecting a baby and considering maternity photos, I'd love to help create something beautiful that celebrates this season of your life.

Based in Bathurst and photographing families throughout the Central West NSW, my maternity sessions are relaxed, natural and focused on genuine connection rather than stiff posing.

Because while pregnancy may not always feel glamorous...

It is one of the most incredible chapters of your story. 🤍
