Some sessions carry more history than others — and Eliza and Zac’s engagement session near Bathurst was one of those.

This was my fourth session with their family, which made this one feel incredibly special from the very start. Over the years, I’ve photographed different seasons of their lives, but this session was about them — their love, their story, and an eight-year journey that finally led to a proposal just one day before our shoot.

Yes, their little ones popped into a few photos (because that’s real life), but at its heart, this session was about Eliza and Zac and the moment they’d been waiting for.

An engagement session eight years in the making

After eight years together, the proposal finally happened the day before our session — and you could feel it in everything. There was this quiet excitement, a deep sense of “we made it,” and an ease between them that only comes from years of shared life.

Nothing felt rushed or performative. This wasn’t about showing off a ring — it was about celebrating a love that had grown slowly, intentionally, and patiently.

That kind of history changes the way a session feels. It becomes less about photos and more about marking a moment.

A relaxed forest engagement session near Bathurst

We chose a quiet forest location near Bathurst that offered space, privacy, and soft filtered light. The forest felt grounding — calm, earthy, and completely fitting for a session rooted in connection rather than spectacle.

Instead of stiff poses, we focused on:

  • gentle prompting

  • natural movement

  • letting moments unfold as they happened

Their kids joined in for a handful of photos before heading off, giving Eliza and Zac space to be fully present together — laughing, holding hands, and soaking in this new chapter.

Soft light, earthy tones, and real connection

Forest sessions around Bathurst are some of my favourites because the light does so much of the work for us. Tall trees soften everything, creating a warm, even glow that feels natural and timeless.

Eliza and Zac were relaxed and completely themselves. The way they moved together, the easy laughter, and the quiet moments in between told the story far better than any pose ever could.

These are the kinds of images that don’t just show what it looked like — they remind you how it felt.

Engagement photography that honours your story

This session was a reminder that engagement photos don’t have to be flashy or staged to be meaningful. Sometimes the most powerful sessions are the ones rooted in history, patience, and genuine connection.

After four sessions together, photographing Eliza and Zac in this season felt like such an honour.
